Takuya Nakamura at 3OZ Dive Club

3oz Selects + Hotbed welcomes Takuya Nakamura to San Diego on May 7 at the 3oz Dive Club. Nakamura's path to electronic music runs through some unlikely rooms. Born in Tokyo, he moved to Boston in 1990 to study under jazz theorist and composer George Russell at the New England Conservatory, before relocating to New York City where he became a fixture in the jazz and jungle scenes of the mid-90s. Along the way he played with Quincy Jones, David Byrne, and Arto Lindsay, and became a member of cult acts including Jojo Mayer's Nerve and Cocorosie. That background isn't a footnote. It's the whole point. What Nakamura brings to a DJ set is a harmonic sensibility and rhythmic vocabulary that most electronic artists never develop because they never had to.
